CreateInstall Light is intended for the creation of software installer packages. Therefore, this tool comes in particularly handy for software developers. The regular interface of this product may feel quite complex to some people. Luckily, there is still the possibility of using CreateInstall Assistant, which is quite similar to a wizard that takes you through all the basic steps.

Creating an installer package begins by choosing an output folder and the executable file. Likewise, it includes deciding if you want a self-extracting setup, which you can distribute in several packages of equal size. Next, you can fill in all the metadata that helps identify your installers, such as name and version. The following step is choosing the folder where the installation files are stored and setting a compression level for them. In this regard, it is great that the program supports two algorithms with a compression ratio of up to 10.

Fortunately, CreateInstall Light lets you decide what your installer will look like. Thus, you can configure font family and size as well as include logo images. Then, you are allowed to create the necessary shortcuts. Likewise, it is possible to include the keys to add to the registry. Finally, it is excellent that product uninstaller can be created.

Advanced users can take advantage of the possibility of working directly on the corresponding scripts. Likewise, they can run some of the program’s features from the command line, which also allows exporting commands from other software.

CreateInstall Light, together with Free and Full, are the three versions of CreateInstall. While the version reviewed here is not free, it is half the price of the Full version. In this regard, it is a rather inexpensive alternative offering a decent set of features. Logically, it lacks some of the features you can find in the full version, such as creating backup files, scheduled tasks and services as well as unzipping various compression formats. For this reason, it is always a good idea to compare what the different versions have to offer before making a decision.
